Alan Band, Electronics Engineer

Contact Information

Alan Band is an Electronics Engineer in the Electron Physics Group in CNST. He received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Alan also holds an Associates degree in Bio-Medical Instrumentation Technology from Springfield Technical Community College in Springfield, Massachusetts. Alan has over 30 years of experience in Biomedical and Scientific Instrumentation and has held positions in government and private industry as a design engineer, engineering technician and field service technician. His prior places of employment include the Los Alamos National Laboratory, Evans and Sutherland Computer Corporation and Becton Dickinson Automated Immunochemistry. Since joining NIST in 1991 Alan has designed and supervised the construction of numerous electronic instruments for controlling state-of-the-art scientific experiments. Of particular note are electronic devices associated with scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), scanning electron microscopy with polarization analysis (SEMPA) and nanofabrication with laser-cooled atoms. In 2003, Alan was awarded the NIST Bronze Medal for his contributions to the Electron Physics Group’s scientific programs as well as collaborative projects with other laboratories within NIST.
