A Fast, Deterministic Source of Cr Atoms
Experiment
MOT Control:
- Large solid angle (0.2 sr) collection optics easily detects fluorescence of single atoms above background.
- Ratemeter-comparator generates load and dump signals
- MOT is rapidly (<5 ms) dumped by simultaneously pulsing MOT magnetic field off AND
blocking one of MOT laser beams with Pockels cell.
Loading Control:
- Direct line of sight loading from oven is blocked.
- 427.6 nm nm dye laser deflects, collimates, and optically pumps atoms to 5S2 metastable state.
- When loading is desired, 633.2 nm laser optically pumps metastable atoms back to ground state.
